Public Gardens We Maintain
The Jensen Beach Garden Club is dedicated to beautifying and enhancing the landscapes of public buildings and parks throughout our community. Our Gardening Committee works tirelessly to weed, trim, plant, and mulch these spaces — not only for everyone’s enjoyment, but also to provide nourishment for pollinators that are so vital to our environment.
Each year we celebrate Arbor Day by donating and planting a tree to the community. Recent gifts include a showy Hong Kong orchid tree, now thriving in the Butterfly Garden at Hoke Library (2024) and a Royal Poinciana tree at the Senior Center in Langford Park (2025).

Indian Riverside Park
A delightful and beautifully maintained county park, IRP is a very popular destination for people who enjoy walking along the river and taking in nature. JBGC currently maintains three gardens in IRP.
The Butterfly Garden: The most popular attraction in the park is the tranquil Butterfly Garden. JBGC participated in the installation of the garden and has lovingly maintained and enhanced it for over twenty years.
As an ongoing project, new features and improvements have been added, including a bench to relax and enjoy the peaceful view across the lake. A bronze heron statue crafted by world-renowned artist Geoffrey Smith memorializes Dorothy Strauss, a JBGC past president. You’ll find unique specimens in this garden – don’t miss the Dutchman’s Pipevine, the Yellow Butterfly Vine, and the large Firebush trees that attract dozens of butterflies. A staghorn fern and bromeliads are artfully arranged on the remains of an old tree, bringing it new life. In other areas throughout the park, you’ll notice several plaques denoting trees donated and planted by JBGC and a plaque on the pier.
The "Cupcake" Planter - Martin County asked the Garden Club to restore a long-neglected three-tiered planter. In March 2026, members of our gardening committee worked tirelessly to install new soil, plants, and flowers—transforming the space into something truly stunning. Affectionately nicknamed the “cupcake planter”, it has now been thoughtfully reimagined as a vibrant focal point.
Today, the planter features bold tropical plantings such as Petra crotons, agave, lipstick pentas, oyster plants, flax lilies, blue daze, sedum, ixora, and variegated schefflera. These selections are complemented by clean, structured borders, creating a look that is both welcoming and elegant—perfectly suited to the historic setting and sweeping river views.
The Southwest Garden - More recently, the club added a new garden bed at the southwest corner of the park, bringing fresh color and texture to the landscape. Often nick-named Dana's garden, it was the brainchild of our President Dana von Rinteln in 2024. Filled entirely with plants donated by Dana and many other club members, the bed features crinum lilies, ferns, cordylines, cacti, and even left-over Christmas amaryllis plants that thrive in the ground.
We recently dedicated the garden to Carolyn Donigan who loved Indian Riverside Park and whose family supports the Jensen Beach Garden Club.
Butterfly Garden at Hoke Library
This beautiful butterfly garden was certified by the North American Butterfly Association for providing resources that increase the world's butterflies. JBGC designed and planted this large garden in 2002 and has maintained it ever since. It’s worth going outside the library to enjoy this space. You’ll notice a lovely mosaic installation by JBGC member Linda Elliot in 2016 and enjoy the delicate beauty of a unique hibiscus tree species. A large Cassia tree anchors the space as the butterflies enjoy the Coral Honeysuckle vine and Porterweed. JBGC funded the irrigation system, keeping the garden lovely.
The Log Cabin at Langford Park
The Senior Center at the Log Cabin Garden in Langford Park has been maintained by JBGC since 2004. At that time, JBGC took over the maintenance of an existing garden that needed a caretaker, improving and adding to the garden over the years. Today, the Club's Garden Committee works tirelessly to maintain and care for the gardens around the Log Cabin. Click here to read about our recent transformation.

Downtown Jensen Beach Sidewalk Planters
In 2022, the Jensen Beach Chamber of Commerce asked JBGC to help plant and maintain the large planters decorating the vibrant downtown space. Everchanging, each new season will bring new colors and plants to enjoy. The committee often hand waters the planters during hot and dry weather, which is so very common here in Jensen Beach Florida.
